Karate Clubs / Classes for Children in Tasman
Born in Upminster, Essex, England, Paul Natzyl started to learn Uechi-Ryu Karate in 1977 at the age of 21 under Instructor Ron Ship, at the Shenfield Sports Centre, Brentwood, Essex. Paul achieved his Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt) in 1982. He became assistant to Ron Ship soon after and in 1986 began to teach professionally, forming clubs in Billericay, Brentwood, Rayleigh and Wickford Essex. The group of clubs became known as the Shi Gakko Shudan or Four School Group.
In the early 90's Paul was made a Board Member of the Uechi-Ryu Karate Association. Paul was also made a member of the Association's grading panel responsible for examining students for Black Belt grades.
In 2002, Paul was graded to 6th Dan by Okinawan Masters visiting the U.K. at the same time receiving the title of Renshi (the first in the range of Karate Master titles ). In 2009 Paul was awarded the title of Shihan (Master Instructor, the ultimate title for an instructor), by the Okinawa Karate-Do Association, Japan. In 2010 Paul visited Okinawa and successfully passed a grading examination for the rank of 7th Dan, at the same time receiving the title of Kyoshi (the second in the range of Karate Master titles).
In 2010 Paul founded the Okinawa Karate Association U.K. consisted mainly of the Shi Gakko Shudan clubs. These were soon joined by other U.K. clubs in Cambridgeshire, Essex and Kent. Recently having moved to New Zealand Paul has formed the Okinawa Karate Association NZ and is pioneering the style by establishing clubs in the Tasman region.
Paul has made a study of other martial arts, including Tai Chi, Ju Jitsu, Judo, Boxing, Kickboxing and Kung Fu along with other Karate styles. In addition to teaching the Shohei-Ryu syllabus, he often blends the techniques from these other arts and styles into his training sessions along with general Self-Defence. Over the years Paul has taught people from all walks of life and all age groups.
